What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist, mimicking a naturally occurring hormone in your body.

It was originally approved in 2017 to help control blood sugar in people with Type 2 Diabetes. It was found that people taking semaglutide (Ozempic) to help control blood sugar also lost weight. Because of this, the manufacturer of the medication studied semaglutide in people without Type 2 Diabetes, but at a higher dose.

Based on the weight loss findings (on average 33 pounds over 68 weeks), the FDA-approved semaglutide for weight loss in adults with a body mass index (BMI) > 30 alone or a BMI>27 with at least one weight-related issue (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or cardiovascular disease).

It is a once-weekly injection that can easily be self-administered. Many clients can expect to lose up to 15% of their initial weight within one year.

A 68-week study with almost 2,000 adult participants reported an average weight loss of nearly 15% (approximately 35 pounds). The placebo group lost an average of 2.5% of their body weight.

What is Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is both a GLP-1 receptor agonist (like Semaglutide) and a gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP). Tirzepatide mimics both the GLP-1 hormone and the GIP hormone. The GIP hormone triggers insulin secretion and communicates the sensation of fullness in your brain.

Because it has an additional active hormone than Semaglutide, it is possible that patients will lose more weight on Tirzepatide than on Semaglutide. Studies have reported that patients have lost up to 22% of their initial weight within one year.

How does Semaglutide work?

Semaglutide should be used with lifestyle changes, including a healthy, reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity, to help people lose weight.

Semaglutide delays stomach emptying. This leads to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meal sizes.

Semaglutide slows intestinal motility.

Semaglutide lowers blood sugars, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.

Semaglutide stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas.

Why is Vitamin B12 added to Semaglutide & Tirzepatide?

Vitamin B12 has been shown in studies to assist with the tolerance of treatment with GLP-1 agonists.

Two common adverse reactions associated with Semaglutide are nausea and hypophagia.

These reactions have been shown to be significantly reduced when used in conjunction with Vitamin B12.

The addition of B12 also aids increasing energy levels and improved sleep regulation.

Why is Glycine added to Semaglutide & Tirzepatide?

Glycine is an amino acid that is critical for our body. It is the second most abundant amino acid in our body.

Glycine helps:

  • your body make the antioxidant glutathione which fights free radicals, lowers inflammation and repairs damaged DNA.Helps build creatine which is vital for providing energy for our brain and muscles
  • your body better secrete and respond to the metabolic effects of insulin
  • improve your sleep quality
  • you keep a healthy lining of our GI tract
  • helps you build important proteins like collagen and muscle

Your body can make some glycine and you also get glycine from protein-rich foods. Now you can get glycine in our compounded Tirzepatide and Semaglutide!
